Pumpkins in the Woods

Hubbard Woods Park will be transformed into a pumpkin patch for the family to enjoy! The event will include pumpkin decorating, carnival games, bounce houses, a DJ, costume contest, and more. Cookies, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase from Chef Phil. Register by October 15 to receive a pumpkin. Pending availability, pumpkins may be purchased at the event for $7 residents and $12 non-residents. Those not interested in receiving a pumpkin do not need to pre-register for this event – just show up! Things That Go Bump in the Night

A Night of 1,000 Jack-O'Lanterns
Through October 20, 2019

More than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins—some as large as 150 pounds—will light up the night at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Night of 1,000 Jack-o’-Lanterns is the only event of its kind in the Chicago area. Using scalpels, knives, gouges, and power tools, artists for the New York-based company Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns spend up to 15 hours sculpting a single pumpkin. The LED-lit jack-o’-lanterns will be staged along a festive, paved pathway, starting at the Esplanade. Along the way, encounter entertaining characters, watch live carving, and view the ghostly trains in the Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America. Purchase light snacks and drinks such as cider and ale on the Esplanade before you head onto the path. Along the path, stop over at the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden for more hearty seasonal fare. Event is held rain or shine. Women and Prohibition: A War of Mothers and Daughters, Sisters and Wives
Through October 20, 2019

This is a new exhibit at the Frances Willard House Museum that highlights the work of women to expand their public lives, advocate for themselves, and protect their families from the serious problems that alcohol can cause. Visitors can learn how women acted in the political arena before they were able to vote and how they worked to gain the vote to extend their reach. This exhibit is a companion to two exhibits at the Evanston History Center – Dry Evanston: the Untold Story (up through January 2020) and Spirited: Prohibition inAmerica (up through October 20, 2019). Special joint tours of the Willard House and the Dawes House are offered in conjunction with these exhibits.
