Pizza Party on the North Shore

Pizza rules as America’s most popular comfort food. Which means it’s always a great time for an old-fashioned pizza party. Feed the whole family and order up that perfect pie with salads, drinks and desserts for a special sports event, movie night or well-deserved break from the kitchen. Find more family meals and dining delights when you discover where to eat on Chicago’s North Shore.

THE CRISP CLASSIC STYLE
Serving up traditional Italian dishes since 1968, D’Agostino’s Pizzeria (2350 Lehigh Ave., Glenview; 241 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling) earns their fame for a crispy thin crust pizza with dozens of toppings to customize your slices. California Pizza Kitchen rules with specialties like Original BBQ Chicken Pizza, The Works and Spicy Milano (available on a cauliflower crust, too). Enjoy all this delciousness and more at their Westfield Old Orchard (Old Orchard Rd. & Skokie Blvd., Skokie) and Northbrook Court (1515 Lake Cook Rd., Northbrook) locations.

MORE CLASSIC COMBOS AND WOOD-FIRED PERFECTION
Union Pizzeria (1245 Chicago Ave., Evanston) cooks up fresh Neapolitan pizzas — think Quattro Formaggi or Shrimp and Bacon — in wood-fired ovens. A Chicago area institution since 1947, Marcello’s (1911 Cherry Ln., Northbrook) crafts build-your-own saucy New York Style or delish Gourmet Pizza selections from scratch with ingredients like fresh basil, giardiniera and Italian beef. Guildhall Restaurant (694 Vernon Ave., Glencoe) adds continental flare to their Neapolitan editions as in Funghi e Spinaci, Sausage and Giardiniera and vegan options all cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven.

TRY A UNIQUE TAKE ON PIZZA
The Grateful Bites Pizza Shoppe (899 Green Bay Rd., Winnetka) menu includes a Mexican spin with the Elote, an olive-oil-based Neapolitan with mozzarella, roasted corn, mayo, cotija cheese, cilantro and chili powder on sourdough crust finished in a wood-burning oven. At Napolita (1126 Central Ave., Wilmette) you can choose from a large selection of Neopolitan style Rossa (red) or Bianca (white) pizzas. We suggest trying the Noci with taleggion, fontal, caramelized onion, walnut pesto, dates, arugula, balsamic glaze and candied walnuts.  B Squared Pizza (601 Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling) dishes out Detroit-style pies; light and airy with crispy corners, you choose from toppings like pickled Fresno peppers, smoked bacon or fennel sausage. Modern Tocco (507 Chestnut St., Winnetka) highlights their signature Spaghetti Pie with Carbonara or Tomato Basil alongside a regular pizza menu. Literally made with spaghetti, this beast feeds 4 to 6 people (order 2+ hours ahead). As a schwarma and kabob house, Larsa’s Mediterranean Cuisine (3724 Dempster St., Skokie) brings Greek flavors to the table in Johnny’s Classic Pizza with steak shawarma, cheese, onions and tomatoes.

GO DEEP: DEEP DISH AND PAN PIZZAS
Plunge into the full-on Stuffed Cheese Pizza experience from The Village Inn Pizzeria Sports Bar & Grill (8050 Lincoln Ave., Skokie) although their thick, pan and gluten-free crusts also rock. North Branch Pizza & Burger Co. (4520 W. Lake Ave., Glenview) gets all gooey and cheesy inside a crispy Caramelized Crust deep dish; sample a specialty (i.e., Eat Your Veggies, Steak Out) or build your own. Middy Mags Pizzeria (1127 Depot St., Glenview) rocks the crust for deep dish with customizable toppers from sausage and Kalamata olives to Canadian bacon and feta cheese. Northshore Pizza Company (300 N Happ Rd., Northfield) offers a Pan or Stuffed with sauce choices Aglio Olio (olive oil and garlic), crushed tomatoes (Margherita Sauce) or marinara. Each joint has thin crust picks, too, if you must.
