Andrew Meye Quintet

Andrew Meyer is a versatile Chicago-based trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator with an active presence in the city’s jazz community. A St. Louis native, he studied with Ray Charles Band alumnus Wayne Coniglio and earned his master’s degree from DePaul University, where he studied with Tom Matta, Dana Hall, Tim Coffman, Chad McCullough, and Scott Burns. Andrew performs regularly with the Tom Garling Jazz Orchestra, Blueshift Big Band, Jazz for Chicago Big Band, led by Roger Ingram, Mulligan Mosaics, led by Ted Hogarth, the Sam Pilnick Nonet, and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Players. He is also a top call substitute with leading Chicago ensembles, including the Chicago Jazz Orchestra and New Nostalgia, led by Neil Carson, to name a few. As a composer and arranger, Andrew has written original music for quintet, sextet, nonet, and big band. Some of his most recent accomplishments as a writer have been writing for big bands. In 2026, the Blueshift Big Band recorded and released an album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Persona video game series in collaboration with Sega, featuring Andrew’s arrangement of Heaven from Persona 4. This arrangement was submitted for consideration for a GRAMMY nomination for the 69th Annual GRAMMY Awards for Best Arrangement, Instrumental. Andrew leads two ensembles focused on original music: Interlace Sextet, a collaborative group with Chicago saxophonist Andy Schlinder inspired by the tradition of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, and the Andrew Meyer Quintet, which showcases his original compositions and arrangements. His ensembles have performed and held residencies at notable venues including Andy’s Jazz Club, The Green Mill, Merriman’s Playhouse in South Bend, Fulton Street Collective, Clara, and Jazz St. Louis. His debut album, Silver Linings (2024), features original compositions written for his quintet during the 2020 pandemic and reflects his evolving artistic voice, shaped by his St. Louis upbringing and the rich musical tradition of the Chicago jazz scene.
