One of the most famous human rights defenders of the 20th-century, Nelson Mandela was the face of a movement against racial injustice. Experience the immersive Mandela: Struggle for Freedom exhibit at the Illinois Holocaust Museum (through September 12). Don’t miss meeting virtual Holocaust Survivors at the Abe & Ida Cooper Survivor Stories Experience holographic theater. Opening July 15, Shanghai: Safe Haven During the Holocaust sheds light on a lesser-known moment in Holocaust history: European Jews who had been shut out of country after country while trying to escape Nazi persecution found a beacon of hope in an unlikely place: Shanghai, China. Skokie Farmers Market, Skokie
Celebrate the outdoors with all things fresh and tasty. Bursting with flavors and colors of the season, North Shore Farmers Markets offer a bounty of locally-sourced, artisanal and unique organic fruits/veggies, baked wonders, garden art, hand-made jewelry — all in open-air morning markets in Evanston, Winnetka, Skokie, Northbrook and Glenview throughout May–October.

Head to the spectacular sandy beaches of Evanston along Lake Michigan for scenic jogging and biking trails to energize and entertain. Wade in for a swim or check out the boating and other recreational facilities available throughout the area.
Ravinia Festival, Highland Park
The Ravinia Festival is planning a triumphant return in July for the summer season presenting their signature feast of genres: classical, popular and chamber music.
