In Glencoe, the Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe) features a gymnasium, cardio equipment and strength machines, classes like yoga and barre, and more. And in Skokie, take advantage of an award-winning fitness center, track, and group exercise classes at Weber Leisure Center (9300 Weber Park Place, Skokie). You can even enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing at Winnetka Golf Club's 18-Hole Course (1300 Oak St., Winnetka), which is open for winter exercise in the off-season.

For even more help with all of your fitness goals, check out the City of Evanston, Northbrook Park District, Skokie Park District and Wheeling Park District.

Eat Well

A healthy year starts with what’s on your plate. Fortunately, it’s easy to find food that’s both good for you and delicious on Chicago’s North Shore. Blind Faith Café (525 Dempster St., Evanston) serves "globally inspired vegetarian cuisine" that even the biggest carnivore will love. The dinner menu features everything from starters like Stuffed Risotto Cakes and Warm Onion Gruyere Tart to entrees like Spinach Lasagna and Teriyaki Fried Rice Bowl.

If you're in Des Plaines, visit Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar (9860 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines). Start with the Hummus Trio (Traditional, Jalapeño Cilantro, and Roasted Red Pepper) or Tzatziki. For your entree, try the Yogurt Chicken Breast, Char-Grilled Shrimp Skewers, Lamb Kokinisto, or a Wrapped Pita with chicken, pork, or bifteki.

In Glencoe, Guildhall (694 Vernon Ave., Glencoe) is serving up local ingredients in a variety of delicious ways (and in a beautiful modern setting, too). Visit for dinner to enjoy Idaho Rainbow Trout with honey braised turnips, roasted pepper jam, and eggplant puree or Walnut Crusted Pork Chop with parsnip puree, grilled broccolini, and bourbon mustard jus. Or make brunch plans to try the Seasonal Vegetable Omelet, Oatmeal Banana Pancakes, or Smoked Salmon on Avocado Toast.

And turn to Purple Sprout (341 Dundee Road, Wheeling) for food "based in nature's goodness for physical health, mental balance and spiritual growth." Dine in to savor Teriyaki Tofu Kebab, Hempburger, Chickpea Veggie Scramble Crepe, and more, or swing by for grab-n-go items like Falafel with Sunflower Sour Cream, Cashew Basil Pizza, and Freed Salmon Roll. And don't forget dessert! You'll love the Chocolate Bonbons, Lemon Cheesecake, and Coconut Raspberry Macaroons.
