It might be getting cooler outside, but things are only starting to heat up around Chicago’s North Shore. Fall is filled with festivals, seasonal events, shopping deals, performances and more fun that we look forward to all year long. Mark these dates on your calendar — there’s a fall favorite for everyone in the family.
American Craft Expo
One of the best fine craft shows in the U.S. takes place at Chicago Botanic Garden and features more than 140 artists showing work in 12 media, including ceramics, furniture, glass, paper and wood. Best of all, the event raises funds for research at NorthShore University HealthSystem.
What’s fall without football? Cheer on Northwestern at Evanston’s Ryan Field, or find a local restaurant or bar where you can watch road games.
Illinois Holocaust Museum Exhibits
The mission of the Illinois Holocaust Museum is to “Remember the Past, Transform the Future.” Visit throughout the fall for permanent exhibits like the Zev and Shifra Karkomi Holocaust Exhibition, which features more than 500 artifacts, documents, and more, or the Take a Stand Center, where you can meet and interact with survivors in the holographic Survivor Stories Experience. And stay up-to-date on all of the museum’s special exhibits here.
Evanston Art and Big Fork Festival
The end of summer doesn’t mean the end of festival season. You can keep the festival fun going in downtown Evanston at this event highlighting art, live music, local restaurants and more.
Folk Fest at The Grove
Take a step back in time right in your own backyard when The Grove hosts interpreters who reenact local history. This annual Folk Fest also features folk music, square dancing, hayrides, food, shopping and more.
Local breweries and restaurants come together to celebrate Oktoberfest with beer tastings and tasty food in downtown Evanston.
Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns
Chicago Botanic Garden is always one of the places to be in the fall. In addition to Harvest Weekend, Fall Bulb Festival, Autumn Brews: Seasonal Beer Tasting in the Garden, and the Spooky Pooch Parade, the Garden is illuminated by 1,000 jack-o’-lanterns during this event.
This Winnetka Community House tradition has been around for more than 100 years of spooky fun. If you’re looking for a milder maze, visit during the day for the Not So Scary Haunted House.

This nationally recognized show is the perfect place to find unique furniture, home decor, art, clothes and jewelry. Plus, proceeds benefit the Winnetka Community House.
