Evanston Hygge Fest!

Embracing hygge (pronounced “hue-gah”) is a marvelous way to banish winter blues and celebrate the mellow. The Danish lifestyle mindset to cherish and enjoy the small, good things in life honors family, friendship and all things cozy. Downtown Evanston's Hygge Fest is a month-long series of events basking in warmth and coziness, as well as inspiring mindfulness during special in-store and restaurant experiences with crafting and comfort food and bevvies to sooth the soul.

Grab a pal and up your crafting game with two fun classes offered by Assembly Creators. Create your own designer soy candle in an engaging two-hour Candle Making Workshop with Atelier 880 (Feb. 8). Get a glimpse into divine scents and express your personal taste in fragrance while enjoying a glass of wine as industry experts guide you through the process. Follow up with the Enamel Jewelry Workshop (Feb. 29) to design your own enamled pair of earrings or necklace with help from Handmade by Michelle. Yes, that one has wine, too.

Hygge Pop Up Market at One River School of Art and Design

Local Evanston artists and One River are teaming up to host a Hygge Pop-Up Market. Find handmade home décor or personal care goodies to enrich your own respite or share the thoughtful hygge spirit with someone special. One River has curated a variety of soothing gifts handcrafted with care by Evanston creatives. One River has intentionally included a charming variety of items - think comfy wraps, scarves, mugs, candles, journals, etc. - at several price points so everyone can find something they love. 

Alice's Table Floral Workshop at Five & Dime

In honor of hygge, Five & Dime will be providing a two-hour, in-restaurant floral arrangement workshop! Head upstairs to their rooftop lounge (enclosed for the season) and receive step-by-step instruction along with all the flowers and materials you need to make a fresh, beautiful display to take home. A complimentary drink will keep you warm and your blooms will spark joy. Grab a friend to share this delightful Sunday afternoon activity on Feb. 2. No experience necessary, but you must RSVP.

Whiskey & Vinyl Night at Found

Warm up on those wintery eves with a "Whiskey & Vinyl" night at the intimate and delightful Found. Bring in selections from your own record collection, choose something from their in-house selection or listen as others share their favorites. Whiskey aficionado Vanessa Villagomez will be on hand to personally drink and taste through the bar’s fun and fab libations list with you! Make a reservation or just walk-in. Wednesday evenings (Feb. 4, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18).

Pretty Pie Pageant Contest at Bookends and Beginnings  
1712 Sherman Ave., Evanston
What's cozier in your hygge kitchen than baking a pie? Enter a pie-making contest on Feb. 16 at Bookends and Beginnings! Whether you're a beginning baker or have years of experience, you can enter any of five categories: Prettiest, Best Personality, Best Pocket Pie (incl. dumplings, empanadas, knishes, and other hand-pies), Best Sweetie Pie, and Best Savory Pie. Everyone will be able to taste several pies, and winners will take home a prize. Note: To enter, you must purchase a pie-making book at Bookends and Beginnings and select a recipe from that book.

Warm Up & De-Stress at Creative Coworking

Are you hungry for a little "me time"? The Oasis Center for Integrated Wellbeing, located in Creative Coworking, is hosting chair massages and amazing tea from Light of Day Organics...and maybe some chocolate, too! To allow time for each person to receive their 10-minute chair massage, the event is first come, first serve, and space is limited to a dozen.
