Where to Shop this Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday takes place every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. According to Entrepreneur, buying local helps improve your local economy, keeps your community unique and even improves your health. Plus, as Huffington Post points out, it’s better for the environment.

Here on Chicago’s North Shore, there are plenty of local businesses to support, selling everything from toys and books to wine and even baked goods for your pets. So whether you’re looking for that perfect gift for a special someone or want to treat yourself, head out to these shops on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (and keep going back throughout the year!).

Becky & Me Toys

620 Grove Street, Evanston

If you’re on the hunt for that hot new toy, a perfect companion for holiday travel that will keep kiddos entertained for hours or a fun and educational gift, stop by this independent toy store run by Peggy Sebert (a former teacher) and daughter Becky (a current teacher). As their website states, “In an electronics-oriented society, Becky & Me Toys is committed to encouraging play that is real (not virtual), that is active and creative and that is focused on the concerns, ideas and interests of children.”
