Summer is in full swing, but don’t let it pass you by without a trip to the beach. Although there’s no ocean nearby, Chicago’s North Shore is still filled with beaches beckoning you to enjoy a day (or hopefully many more!) of fun and relaxation on the water or in the sand. Here are our favorite lakefront areas on Chicago's North Shore.
Evanston Beaches
Enjoy one of Evanston’s five public swimming beaches all season long (Lighthouse, Greenwood Street, Lee Street and South Boulevard beaches are accessible to people with disabilities). Rent a kayak or sailboat, take lessons and more. A beach token or daily pass is required to get in, but children under age one are free. Evanston residents can also take advantage of free beach days at Clark Street Beach. More information is available here.
Locations:
Glencoe Beach
Rent a sailboat, hobie catamaran, kayak and paddleboard for some adventure, or rent a chair and umbrella for a more relaxing day in the sand. If you’re heading to the beach with a large group, look into renting out the Trellis or a Sun Shelter, the perfect spot for a picnic. Plus, paddleboard fitness classes take place out on the water. Daily admission ranges from $0-10 depending on age, hour and beach conditions. Season passes are available.
Location:
Winnetka Beaches
Winnetka boasts three swimming beaches, one dog beach and one boating and sailing beach. With amenities like volleyball courts, playgrounds, and more, your day will be jam-packed with sandy fun. Admission at swimming beaches is $5 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. Season passes are available.
