Gluten-Free Finds on the North Shore

When you have dietary restrictions, dining out can be more work than eating at home. Or, you'll discover you only have a few options to choose from, none of which are very exciting. Fortunately, many restaurants have started to cater to more diners, including those who need gluten-free options. Here are some of the restaurants around Chicago's North Shore that are serving up tasty gluten-free fare.

Please note that not all of these restaurants are a gluten-free environment. Call ahead or discuss the cooking process with your server to make sure your needs can be accommodated.

Evanston
Evanston is a dining mecca, which means it's easy to find fare for all dietary needs. For gluten-free finds, start at Ten Mile House (1700 Central St.). This restaurant serves "thoughtful comfort food and beverages," many of which can be made gluten free. Best of all, the TMH Ice Cream Float (with your choice of six beverage options) and Amanda's Chocolate Brownie are gluten-free desserts. Or, if you're in the mood for traditional Thai food, head to NaKorn (1622 Orrington Ave.). Gluten-free options here include bites like Meatballs of Chicken and Crab Cake Bite and entrees like Rainbow Trout, Pan Seared Sea Scallop, and New York Strip Steak. And don't forget about Blind Faith Cafe (525 Dempster St., Evanston), which serves "globally inspired vegetarian cuisine." There's a large selection of gluten-free options, but must-try dishes include Spicy Fried Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potato Fries, Yellow Coconut Curry, Thai Peanut Noodles, and Enchiladas Verdes. For a sweet treat, DB3 Donuts (1704 Central St.) offers gluten-sensitive doughnuts. Flavors change every month, but you'll find Maple Glazed and Cocoa Powdered Sugar in September.
