Get in on the thrilling Division 1 college sports action when the Northwestern Wildcats take on Midwestern teams competing in the Big Ten Conference. Ride the purple wave for some classic Northwestern football as they square off against Duke University Blue Devils (Sept. 10), Southern Illinois Salukis (Sept. 17) and the Miami University (Ohio) Redhawks (Sept. 24). The ‘Cats home games all play at Ryan Field with the handy dining/shopping zones of Central Street Evanston and Downtown Evanston where you can tackle a meal.

Cap off your summer at the second groovy venue for this popular concert series when Out of Space (presented by SPACE) transforms the Temperance parking lot. The summer street festival meets jubilant block party is a four-day weekend of fun. Score tickets in advance for alternative blues band Houndmouth with Ric Wilson (Sept. 1), indie rockers Car Seat Headrest (CSH) with La Luz (Sept. 2), singer-songwriter powerhouse Neko Case with Courtney Marie Andrews (Sept. 3) and reggae/rap with Steel Pulse and KRS-One (Sept. 4). Enjoy great bevs and food with Evanston’s first and oldest brewery, serving award-winning beers alongside local food vendors.

Let off some steam with an off-beat buddy comedy by Northlight Theater. Quirky and character-driven, this breezy piece pits two essential workers from different worlds at odds as they share the cab of a New York City garbage truck. Danny’s a white, blue-collar mansplainer hiding a heart of gold. Marlowe’s a Black, Ivy League-educated newbie learning the ropes from her old-school partner. They’re thrown together to pick up what the world has discarded. But they begin to discover that there’s more that binds them than taking out the trash.

Unwind under the stars for your last chance of the season to enjoy a gorgeous night out at the oldest and most programmatically diverse music festival in North America. The 36-acre park is nestled in a gently wooded area that makes it an enchanting place to experience music. Bring a picnic or eat at one of the sensational park restaurants. The fall schedule at Ravinia includes a knock-out set of women singers and musicians: Emmylou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter (Sept. 2), Diana Ross (Sept. 4), Stevie Nicks (Sept. 8 & 10) and Erykah Badu (Sept. 11).

Most items are at least 25 years old and many are highly desired by collectors and by those introducing a little vintage into their modern-day lives. See favorite vendors and meet new ones. Kid-friendly and convenient, it really does take place in a prime North Shore parking garage.

If you get excited about enhancing yourself and your home with flair, this annual event is for you. One-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork and luxury collections are available for sale at this highly-competitive, juried show. See some of the country’s top artists — along with selected emerging artists — in 12 media, including jewelry, ceramics, metal, glass, leather and baskets. This year's show returns to the Chicago Botanic Garden with a more intimate setting (no giant tent). Tickets are good for the day and sold in 30-minute increments for timed entry (parking not included).
