The Winnetka Park District is planning an action-packed day of fun with three special events all rolled into one. Bike Winnetka is an inaugural event that will take bicycle riders of all ages through scenic Winnetka at 2:00 pm. The start of this event is at the Cherry Street extension located just south of the Winnetka Ice Arena (490 Hibbard Rd). Fall Fest (formerly Oktoberfest) rolls right into the end of Bike Winnetka at the north end of Skokie Playfield (540 Hibbard Rd.). This free community event will feature: Face Painters, Euro Bungy, Moonwalk, Inflatable Slide, DJ/Karaoke by "Dance All Night" and Food and Beverages will be available for purchase. Lastly, at the same location, catch Winnetka Whiffle Ball Challenge from 3-7pm. Teams will be comprised of five male players (21 years and older). Cost is only $25 per team. Old fashioned food and fun for the entire family, the Northbrook Historical Society's 33rd Annual Shermerfest features live music, loads of activities for kids (including trackless train rides, art projects like "Build-A-Scarecrow," face painters, games, a magic show and more!), a silent auction, raffle drawings, a bake sale featuring home-made goodies, a plant sale, and an antique car and truck show. Backstage Evanston showcases the talents of 17 local performance arts groups including Actors Gymnasium, the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra, Evanston Dance Ensemble, Evanston Symphony Orchestra, Light Opera Works, Music Institute of Chicago, Next Theatre, Northwestern University Theatre Department, Piccolo Theatre, Piven Theatre Workshop, and more! From 3:30 - 7 pm, audience members will see 5-minute performances from each of the participating organizations. Food and drinks will be served. Danon Gallery offers fine art, creative custom picture framing, and more for both residential and corporate environments. Come discover all that these two shops have to offer while mingling with your industry peers. The Chicago Botanic Garden will be bustling with activity during the Fall Bulb Festival, which features a bulb sale, live entertainment, food and fun! On the Esplanade, visitors can sip cider, wine and beer, while listening to live music and shopping the marketplace, which features dozens of vendors offering hand-made pottery, soaps, baked goods, honey, fresh produce, plants, herbs, free-range/drug-free meats, farm-fresh eggs and more! Inside the Regenstein Center, the Woman's Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society will present its annual bulb sale with more than 200 varieties of daffodils, tulips, alliums and other specialty bulbs shipped directly from Dutch suppliers.
