7 Spots for Al Fresco Dining on Chicago’s North Shore

When you live on Chicago’s North Shore, you have to take advantage of hot summer days before that inevitable snow falls again. Fortunately, the North Shore is filled with delicious dining destinations that also offer gorgeous outdoor spaces for al fresco dining. Here are just a few of our favorite spots for al fresco dining on Chicago's North Shore:

Allgauer’s on the Riverfront
2855 N. Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook
When a restaurant’s name includes the phrase “on the Riverfront,” you know it’s a go-to destination for outdoor dining. Visit on Fridays for the Seafood and Prime Rib Buffet, which includes all-you-can-eat snow crab legs, oysters and a dessert display. Allgauer’s has also been named one of the Top 10 Restaurants for Sunday Brunch by Open Table, so don’t miss their Champagne Brunch, complete with bottomless champagne and mimosas, made-to-order omelets, carved prime rib, a chocolate fountain and more.

Avli Estiatorio
566 Chestnut St., Winnetka
At Avli, you don’t have to wait for that perfect summer day to dine al fresco. Their patio is ready for any weather, thanks to heating and a retractable canopy. While you’re there, try the Eggplant and Zucchini sandwich or Fried Zucchini Chips. And don’t forget a glass of wine! Avli has 50 options, plus 10 draft beers, to choose from. Or, make it breakfast for lunch with the oh-so-delicious Greek Honey Pancakes.

Farmhouse Evanston
703 Church St., Evanston
After a day exploring Evanston, take a load off with dinner on the patio at Farmhouse Evanston. Whatever you decide to order, your dish will highlight the best of the Midwest, as this restaurant is all about local and seasonal ingredients.

Found Kitchen and Social House
1631 Chicago Ave., Evanston
Found’s indoor decor is funky and cool, but you don’t have to give that up if you choose to dine al fresco. The patio connects to the indoor space, meaning you’ll still feel summer breezes even if you can’t score a patio table.

Grandpa’s Place
1868 Prairie St., Glenview
Dine al fresco in the heart of Glenview at this cozy neighborhood pub serving everything from a Corned Beef Sandwich and Fish & Chips to Thai Chicken Salad and an Avocado Burger. Stop by on Fridays for a $14.95 fish fry.

Smylie Brothers Brewing Co.
1615 Oak Ave., Evanston
Is there any better way to enjoy some beer and barbecue than outside? We don’t think so! Head out to Smylie Brothers all summer long for some brisket, ribs or even a wood fired pizza and beer that’s been brewed on site.

Tuscany
550 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling
Of course, if we’re talking about al fresco dining, we have to include some Italian fare. Tuscany Wheeling is serving up some of the best Italian food in the area (Bruschetta, Penne E Capesante, Melanzane Parmigiana) and we think it’s even better on the patio.
