Your Guide to Al Fresco Dining on Chicago’s North Shore

There are few things we love more than patio season. Fortunately, the North Shore is filled with plenty of delicious restaurants that offer great outdoor dining spaces. Here are some of our favorite spots for al fresco dining on Chicago’s North Shore.

Allgauer’s on the Riverfront
2855 N. Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook

When a restaurant’s name includes the phrase “on the Riverfront,” you know it’s a go-to destination for outdoor dining. Visit on Fridays for the Seafood and Prime Rib Buffet, which includes all-you-can-eat snow crab legs, oysters and a dessert display. Allgauer’s has also been named one of the Top 10 Restaurants for Sunday Brunch by Open Table, so don’t miss their Champagne Brunch, complete with complimentary champagne and mimosas, Eggs Benedict, made-to-order omelets, French Toast and more.

Avli in Winnetka
Avli Estiatorio
566 Chestnut St., Winnetka

At Avli, you don’t have to wait for that perfect summer day to dine al fresco. Their patio is ready for any weather, thanks to heating and a retractable canopy. While you’re there, try the Eggplant and Zucchini sandwich or Fried Zucchini Chips. And don’t forget a glass of wine! Avli has 50 options, plus 10 draft beers, to choose from. Or, make it breakfast for lunch with the oh-so-delicious Greek Honey Pancakes.

Bravo! Cucina Italiana
The Glen Town Center, Glenview

Enjoy classic Italian pasta dishes, wood-grilled steaks and chops, unique signature dishes and more at this Glenview spot. Located in The Glen Town Center, Bravo! is the perfect restaurant to unwind (and carb-load) after some shopping. Soak up the sunshine and the views of Gallery Park on the outdoor patio.

California Pizza Kitchen
Westfield Old Orchard, Skokie and Northbrook Court, Northbrook

If you ask us, pizzas and patios make for the ultimate combination. California Pizza Kitchen offers up unique pizzas such as Thai Chicken, California Club and Spicy Chipotle Chicken. If you’re into a more traditional ‘za, they have those too. Not into pizza? CPK has plenty of other menu items including salads, pastas, power bowls and more.

Curragh Irish Pub & Restaurant
8266 Lincoln Ave., Skokie and The Glen Town Center, Glenview

Get your corned beef and cabbage fix and feast on other Irish fare at The Curragh Irish Pub and Restaurant. With two locations on Chicago’s North Shore, there are two patios to try! Pro tip: Both locations have killer happy hours featuring discounted beers, wines and spirits in addition to half-price appetizers. Slainte!

Farmhouse Evanston
703 Church St., Evanston

After a day exploring Evanston, take a load off with dinner on the patio at Farmhouse Evanston. Whether you order the Cider Braised Pork Shoulder, Indiana Fish Fry or Stuffed Squash, wash it down with a beer from the Midwest.

Five and Dime in Evanston
Five & Dime
1026 Davis St., Evanston

What’s not to love about Five & Dime? Seriously, we’re obsessed. The food is delicious, the cocktails carefully crafted and there’s bags, ping pong, pinball, giant jenga and more. This Evanston rooftop bar is the perfect place to be all summer long.

Westfield Old Orchard, Skokie

Shopping at Westfield Old Orchard and need a place to recoup? Look no further than Forage & Craft, a rooftop restaurant and bar located above Athleta and Kate Spade New York. The menu features snacks to share (we love the cheese board and arancini), salad, cold press juices, hand-crafted cocktails and delicious entrées like avocado toast, tuna tacos and mac + cheese.

Found Kitchen in Evanston
Found Kitchen
1631 Chicago Ave., Evanston

Found’s indoor decor is funky and cool, but you don’t have to give that up if you choose to dine al fresco. The patio connects to the indoor space, meaning you’ll still feel summer breezes even if you can’t score a patio table.

Brunch at #libertad y'all def need to check this place out!!! #skokie #suburbs #chicago #michelada #cerveza #family

Libertad
7931 Lincoln Ave., Skokie

There are so many reasons to love Libertad. What you need to know: the food is nothing short of phenomenal, the cocktails are wonderfully handcrafted and there’s an outdoor patio to make those things taste even better (if it’s even possible).

Just another beautiful Sunday ?? #spring #golf #veganlunch #earthdayiseveryday

LYFE Kitchen
1603 Orrington Ave., Evanston

When you want to feel healthy and soak up some vitamin D, head to Lyfe Kitchen. From mahi fish tacos and flatbreads to tasty salads and sweet potato fries, there’s something for everyone on the menu at Lyfe Kitchen (sans guilt!). Plus, the large patio is perfect for people watching in popular downtown Evanston.

I could have Nandos everyday ????

Nando’s Peri Peri
Westfield Old Orchard, Skokie

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Chicken is plentiful on the Nando’s Peri Peri menu and we’re big fans. Nestled next to Bloomingdale’s at Westfield Old Orchard, Nando’s is the perfect place to stop before or after you shop.

Peckish Pig
623 Howard St., Evanston

Summertime is even sweeter when you’re hanging on the patio at Peckish Pig. Enjoy delicious menu items from bacon fat popcorn and truffle grilled cheese fingers to fish and chips and so much more. Do not skip dessert.

Pinstripes
1150 Willow Rd., Northbrook

There are many reasons to head to Pinstripes: bowling, bocce, Sunday brunch and, of course, the wonderful patio. Complete with a fire pit, the Pinstripes patio is the perfect place to be day or night.

Smylie Brothers Brewing Co.
1615 Oak Ave., Evanston

Is there any better way to enjoy some beer and barbecue than outside? We don’t think so! Head out to Smylie Brothers all summer long for some brisket, ribs or even a wood fired pizza and beer that’s been brewed on site.

Terra & Vine
1701 Maple Ave., Evanston

From special events and cocktails to lunch, dinner and brunch (yes, they have avocado toast!), Alpana Singh’s Terra & Vine is the perfect spot for nearly every occasion. Now that patio weather is almost here, Terra & Vine is the perfect place to soak up the summer sunshine, too.

Tuscany in Wheeling
Tuscany
550 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling

Of course, if we’re talking about al fresco dining, we have to include some Italian fare. Tuscany Wheeling is serving up some of the best Italian food in the area (Bruschetta, Penne E Capesante, Melanzane Parmigiana) and we think it’s even better on the patio.
