The Kellogg Centennial Global Arts Festival Saturday, October 4

The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University is celebrating its 100th Anniversary! The Centennial Celebration will begin in October and continue through May 2009. To kick things off, the public is invited to join Kellogg alumni, their families and students at a free, day-long celebration on Saturday, October 4 (11 am to 8 pm) in downtown Evanston. This fun-filled event will include crafts and the children's entertainment of Baby Loves Disco during the day, as well as the live music of Michael McDermott, Down the Line, and Grammy-nominated Fountains of Wayne in the evening. Garden horticulturists and staff offer practical tips and demonstrations that will help make your garden more colorful next spring Also this weekend, don't miss the Harvest Festival, where you'll find a variety of items including fresh-baked goods, roasted nuts, cut flowers, handmade soaps, and fresh vegetables. A Letter from Japan: The Photographs of John Swope, featuring photographs from American John Swope's three-and-a-half week journey to Japan in the immediate aftermath of World War II. Officially traveling with the U.S. military to document the release of Allied prisoners of war, Swope also photographed Japanese civilians and the country's war-ravaged landscapes. In the Print, Drawing and Photography Study Center, you'll find Drawn from Memory: Holocaust and History in the Art of Samuel Bak. Throughout his six-decade career, artist Samuel Bak has addressed the tragedies he and other European Jews endured during the Holocaust. In the Theo Leffmann Gallery, you'll find Theo Leffmann: Weaving a Life Into Art. Recognized as a rich contributor to the American fiber art movement, Leffmann liberates textiles from practical and decorative applications by using them as a means of personal expression. Whole Foods in Northbrook will be hosting a Pumpkin Fest from 5-8pm! Come in costume to trick or treat at each department, while parents enjoy deliciously devilish samples throughout the store. There will also be a performance by Jeannie B! and the Jelly Beans, pumpkin carving from 5 to 6:30 pm ($20 per pumpkin), and a community pumpkin lighting at 7 pm. The fun continues with pizza specials, homemade caramel apples and a costume fashion show complete with prizes for the greenest, scariest, cutest and most creative group costume. Enjoy a frightfully good time in the Chicago Botanic Garden's popular "Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America" exhibition decorated especially for Halloween. Families are invited to come in costume and trick-or-treat for prizes throughout the 7,500-square-foot garden on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Little ghosts and goblins will discover figurines of trick-or-treaters on Main Street, bats and crawly creatures, a graveyard, and more, all tucked among miniature scenes of America's best-loved landmarks and beautiful gardens that have been planted to scale.
