Gina Speckman, Executive Director of Chicago's North Shore Convention & Visitors Bureau has been appointed to the Board of Directors of DMAI (Destination Marketing Association International - formerly known as IACVB - International Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus) for a three-year term beginning this month. "It's an honor and a privilege to serve with the leaders of the top convention and visitor bureaus in the world on the Board of Directors of DMAI," says Speckman. More than 100 artists from across the country will showcase their creativity during the 34th Annual Lakeshore Arts Festival. The festival is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day in Evanston's Dawes Park and features live jazz and classical music, a silent art auction, and the popular Family Activity Area, including the Children's Craft Tent and ongoing family entertainment. Hands-on demonstrations in painting, ceramics, and sculpture are presented each day at the Artist Demonstration Tent. With the first day of school right around the corner, Westfield Old Orchard (in cooperation with the Village of Skokie Human Services Division) is seeking donors to help struggling families in the community with the purchase of school supplies for the upcoming academic year. Through August 10, school supplies can be dropped off at the Concierge Services Center located at the Food Court. Those who donate supplies will receive a free child's admission to the Kohl Children's Museum (to be used when an adult admission is purchased). An annual favorite and one of the premier art shows in the country, the American Crafts Exposition (ACE) began 22 years ago as the inspired vision of a few forward-thinking women. Today, it has grown into a showcase for the country's finest craftsman and is also a successful fundraiser for breast and ovarian cancer research. This juried show, which was voted one of the top indoor shows in the country by the National Association of Independent Artists, draws more than 1300 attendees and features the works of over 150 artists. The world's largest collection of Toby Jugs can be found right here in Evanston thanks to Stephen Mullins, founder and curator of the Toby Jug Museum. With more than 6,000 pieces on display, Mullins proudly showcases the ceramic vessels that he began collecting more than 60 years ago as a young child. Toby Jugs are mugs that depict pictures, portraying political and historical figures, literary characters and entertainers. Dating back to the 1760s, they were used as drinking and pouring vessels in British pubs. The museum offers free tours by appointment. For more information, call 1-877-862-9687.

Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park announces a new series of guided tours that are free and open to the public. Trained volunteer docents will lead informal and informative walking tours throughout the park. Adults and families will learn about the park's 70+ large-scale, contemporary sculptures, the creative entities and forces behind the works, and the history and genesis of the Sculpture Park. Northwestern Wildcats Special Offer for CNSCVB Partners

The Northwestern Wildcats vs. New Hampshire will start off the season with their home opener Saturday, September 9 at 1pm at Ryan Field. A special offer of sideline tickets for $15 each are being made available to CNSCVB Partners. Chicago's hospitality officials have announced that the city has surpassed a national travel forecast which outlined an increase in 2005 visitor volume. According to data released by the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau and the Chicago Office of Tourism, a record 33 million travelers visited Chicago in 2005 - an increase of 3.5% over 2004. Overseas travel volume exhibited the most significant increase of 15% over 2004 which exceeded the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA) forecast for a 7% increase.
"We've found that many people traveling to Chicago are taking time to explore the entire region, including Chicago's North Shore," says Gina Speckman, CNSCVB executive director. "The North Shore benefits from downtown Chicago's high occupancy and room rate."
